Letter 4: January is like Mondays

A practical view on slow beginnings, resolutions and self development.

January takes its time

I don’t need to retell the joke. You probably already heard it. January has 365 days. Just like Mondays—a fun-stopping fresh start. It’s that moment between waking up from a nap but wanting to sleep some more. January is a yawn.

I understand people who hate January. This month is burdened by the weight of expectations, echoes of resolutions, and the residue of festive celebrations that may or may not have burned a hole in your pocket.

However, I appreciate that January takes its time; I tag it “my trail-and-error month.” I use January to test if my goals for the year are realistic. At this point, I know that travelling to five countries is achievable, but reading 36 books isn't.

I barely read 1 out of the 3 books I swore to read this month because between jogging school, work, and Youtube like a circus clown, I simply have no time left to read.

Perhaps we wear the same shoe. Driven by your aspirations to make the most of the year but lagging behind to actually make them come true.

On the 28th, at 21:08 p.m., after licking off the peppered sauce from the last piece of chicken wing I’d shredded to bits, I cleaned my hands and sank down on my couch to reflect on how I spent the days gifted to me this year. To sum up in two words: "An attempt”. In 5 words. “January was an attempt”.

When attempting to become a new version of yourself, you are becoming someone you’ve never been before. And when you try to become someone you’ve never been before, you wobble, fall off a few times, just like learning to ride a bike. “Becoming” is a process, and sometimes you take one step forward, two steps back, but regardless, you are moving.

Never stop moving!

What I’ve been listening to:

Bringing back an old banger from the 2010s. This song holds so much childhood memories and never fails to put me in a good mood.

Curious? Check out the song:

Wrapping it Up:

In case you are wondering about my Radisson staycation vlog that I promised would be up by now, I’m sorry I quit.

Why?

Because I didn’t like it and I got lazy. But don’t worry, there will be loads of new content up on my channel soon. Stay tuned and always remember;

Wetin dey hot, dey cold…no rush life
