Letter 2: Selfies, Self-Esteem and the Idea of Self

Hey love,
I'm back! I would have asked, "Did you miss me?" but I already know the answer to that.
Something interesting happened this week.
Bare face, fresh after skincare, I was feeling my skin, so I took a few pics and shared them on social media. The response was wild! I received loads of likes and engagements on Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter, where unfortunately the troll comments started pouring in.
Despite the 2477 likes and 30+ DMs from thirsty men, those negative comments still got under my skin. I am sharing this because it taught me two valuable lessons:
No matter what, people will always have something to say.
Your energy is precious. Underserving people don't deserve a chance or a response.
Howver, this experience made me ponder why, as humans, we often fixate on negativity, even when the positive feedback far outweighs the criticism.
Are you aware of any codified theory for this?
Nevertheless, I'll continue sharing my pictures because I've realized the significance of documenting your life and embracing authenticity. Existence is fleeting, and this moment is all you've got. Live it, document it, and relive it. Don't let idiots with unwashed ass deter you with their ill words. They're beneath you anyway.

The Scoop - Things You Should Know:
If like me, you aim to build your self-awareness this year, know these four terms:
Persona. Ego. Shadow. Self
Persona is the mask you wear when you're out with people
Ego is your concealed sense of self — an idea or an opinion about yourself not usually apparent to others.
Shadow is your repressed desires, behaviors, and impulses. Often referred to as “the dark side.”
Self is the authentic you, stripped of identifiers, persona, ego, and shadow. I'd also argue that your self is the sum of everything that makes you, you.

This song has been on repeat this week. It may or may not be related to my love life. 🙈

Wrapping it Up:
I’m almost done with my first semester exams, so my stress levels have reduced. Even though, despite my request, you didn’t send any encouragement. I can see you don’t love me 😔. But since I do, I’ll leave you with this nugget:
Life often feels like a game. The winners are those who know how to play.
